The centuries old story of Robin Hood was originally sung as a ballad before Kevin Costner played the role in the movies. Perhaps the popularity of Robin Hood lives on today because he took from the rich and gave to the poor. Do you think he was a good guy or a bad guy? Why?

When King John of England raised taxes and began to ignore the law the nobles, merchants, and bishops joined at the fields of Runnymeade in 1215 to force him to sign the Magna Carta or "Great Charter." This document took away some of the King's power and gave it to something called the Parliament. It established the idea that even the King is not above the law. If you were King John would you have signed the Magna Carta? Why or why not?
